Reviews:
Ben Heppner's new album is an hour-plus of very evident love for this masterly songwriter, whose melodies entranced Victorian England. Many tenors belt them out where Heppner never does, singing sensitively in middle voice, caressing the words, preparing climaxes beautifully and taking a high-lying finale...with a heroic squillo - that hair-raising thrill at the top. Lloyd Dykk, The Vancouver Sun, November 1, 2003
Talk about cannon hunting quail! Who could have guessed that today's leading Wagnerian tenor Ben Heppner would stoop to the salon level of Paolo Tosti and get away with it. But he does in Ideale, singing the often sentimental songs of one of Queen Victoria's favourites...as if to the parlour born. The arrangements and performances are splendid. William Littler, Toronto Star, November 20, 2003
